The Sierra de Aracena's diverse landscape of narrow valleys and broad vistas, splashing streams, rocky mountain paths and quiet cork groves lends itself perfectly to exploration on horseback. One of the best ways to appreciate this varied and expansive terrain is to see it from the saddle - our horses do all the work and we have a great vantage point from which to enjoy the scenery!

Our delightful one week riding holiday has been carefully designed to offer the very best of this marvellous region.

We work with a highly professional and fully insured riding outfit with years of experience and a stable of healthy Andalucian crossbreds - all highly accustomed to the terrain and with easy going temperaments which permit handling by riders of varying experience. The horses are fit, sure-footed and responsive and are individually chosen to suit their riders.

We use comfortable Spanish trail saddles (similar to Western style) and, while there is no jumping, there are plenty opportunities for cantering and even galloping should you wish. The itinerary includes six days riding of between 3 and 6 hours each. The maximum group size is 12.

As well as three nights in the Posada del Castaño you'll stay 3 nights in other small hotels in the area while your baggage is transported separately between each. There's also a final night in Seville to round off a fabulous week on the trail. Rooming is on a twin share basis, which means riders booking individually will be roomed with a group member of the same sex - unless, of course, you opt to pay a single supplement. Dinners are mostly eaten in local restaurants though sometimes in the hotels where we stay. Lunches are taken at small village bars which offer a variety of delicious local 'tapas'.

The itinerary is not recommended for beginners but novices who are able to ride at walk, trot and canter are welcome.

The 8 day itinerary includes:

Day 1:   Transfer from Seville, overnight Posada del Castaño.
Day 2:   Introductory 3hr ride taking in two nearby village, overnight Posada del Castaño.
Day 3:   6 hrs ride via Fuenteheridos, Valdelarco and La Nava to a country hotel where we overnight.
Day 4:   3 hr ride via the town of Cortegana with its imposing 13th century hilltop castle, to Almonaster la Real.               The afternoon is free to visit the 10th century mosque overlooking the village or take some gentle
              rides around the area. Overnight local hotel.
Day 5:   5 hr ride to Castaño del Robledo. Overnight Posada del Castaño.
Day 6:   5 hr ride via the historical shrine of Arias Montano and the villages of Alàjar and Linares to Aracena.
              The principal market town of the area is dominated by a 13th century Templar church and castle and
              a visit to its famous underground caves are highly recommended. Overnight local hotel.
Day 7:   4 hr ride via Los Marines to Galaroza where our ride ends. After lunch we transfer directly to Seville
              for our last night. Overnight Seville hotel.
Day 8:   After breakfast you are free to enjoy the city's many attractions before commencing your onward or
              return travel.


Breakfast and lunch is included thoughout, while dinner is included everywhere except in Aracena and in Seville where you will be free to choose from a wide variety of local restaurants.

Throughout the ride you'll be accompanied by Craig or Sasha, as well as either of our good friends Julio or Iluminado - the two brothers who own the stables.

We have no fixed departures but will endeavor to group participants up depending on their preferred dates – it therefore helps to be flexible in this regard. Alternatively, if you have your own club or group of friends we'd be more than happy to operate the holiday for 5 or more riders at virtually any time - depending on availability at the Posada.

Our price for the holiday is € 975 per person on twin share basis. For those requiring a single room thoughout there is a supplement of € 100.
